Legally Complaint Class 2a Medical Device
Active alternating mattresses are higher risk medical devices, that requires a third-party UKCA conformity assessment by a notified body. This enables the device to be registered with the MHRA as a Class IIa medical device, which is a legal requirement. All Squirrel Medical active mattress systems are registered as as class 2a medical devices. This means that our clients can rest assured that their Squirrel mattresses are legally compliant, safe and fit for purpose.
Automatic Patient Weight Adjustment
One of the standout features of the Vestims® Active Mattress is its ability to automatically adjust to accommodate patient weights ranging from 30kg to 200kg. This system recalibrates every hour to adapt to changes in the patient's weight, ensuring consistent support and comfort over time. This reduces the risk of error that could otherwise occur with a manually adjusted system.
Highly Stable Design
The mattress is engineered to mimic the stability of a high-quality pocket spring base, providing superior support. Default Alternating Mode at Start Up
At startup, the Vestims® Active Mattress automatically defaults to alternating mode. This sequential application and relief of pressure has been shown to significantly enhance endothelial function +197%, and resting blood flow to skin tissue +336%.
Dedicated Heel Zone

Quick Release CPR

Power Failure Alert & Panel Lock

Clinical Research
Research from the University of St Mark and St John, published at PUBMED, shows that using the Squirrel Vestim's® active mattress for 8 weeks significantly improved skin health and function. Measurements taken 2-3 hours after getting out of bed indicated substantial long-term physiological benefits, supporting Squirrel Medical's findings that their devices help lower the incidence of pressure ulcers.
